Malays are so ignorant. How to look smart in front of a bunch of them? Quote or read something from the news. Believe me, they don't read or watch news much and when they actually do, it's Buletin Utama, Harian Metro, Malaysiakini, blogs, and Facebook. Yes, Fb.
We all know that media in Malaysia are full of cowdung and usually are the battlefield for the politicians to spread every dung that comes out of their pie holes. Blogs, FB? Both aren't credible sources of info, because both are actually personal exploits of the writer and he/she can write or post anything that tickles their fancy. Of course, if they go overboard, they can still be subjected to legal action etc.
Seriously it always bothers me that some of the Malays I know are so lacking in knowledge with exception to politics. They can talk about politics all day regardless of how fairytale-ish the things they say.
In many occasions, I just say the stuff I know from reading the newstream at Google News and I quickly get branded with 'Wiki' and such. I'm not surprised of their ignorance. My advice is if you want to get a better view of the world we're living in, don't limit your reading to novels and Malaysian sheety media. Go to Google News, get ahold with the global news agencies but don't stop there. Compare their news with each other to get the best perspective.
Plus, we can actually improve English from reading the news. No need to buy and read the thick books (tho I implore to do so).
