Because if you do, I think you miss the whole point of eating a burger. Before I rant about such a trivial matter and probably get bashed later on, do you know that the history of burgers can be traced back to the Mongolian empire era? Yeah it's true, look it up on Wikipedia (duh, where else?).
Burgers are good in my opinion. In Kemahiran Hidup, we call meals as such as 'hidangan sepinggan lengkap' (complete meal?) because they contain all the necessary nutrients. There's the greens for vitamins, the patty for protein and fats, and the breads to provide carbohydrates.
Burgers are also good on the go. That's what the Mongol soldiers figured out. Why not? It contains all the goodness and fits in a palm. A kind of energy pack.
That's why I frown upon burger bakars. I think they obviously defeat the purpose of burgers. Can you eat one while driving or writing or reading? Impossible - you can't use one hand to do a chore and another to hold it because of its size. In fact I think you need another hand to keep the patties and condiments and pickles in a place.
And certainly you can't avoid the mess. Now you have to find some water to clean yourself and a mirror to look for that bit on your face. It's definitely not a mobile bite anymore, it's a full fledged meal that we have to consume in a plate at the dining table with the cutlery and napkin by your side. Maybe that's why they are not cheap too. The cheapest set of burger bakar I've ever bought (on my friends' persuasion) cost me RM8 for a single patty burger, some fries and a bit of black pepper sauce. The meat was so oily and fatty I think a week of jogging wouldn't shed the fats off the system.
Darn with RM8 I'd rather have a plate of nasi goreng petai at a warong.
